How to use CrazyPIN: set up an SMS OTP profile in MyAccount, send a test code, verify customers by 2FA on signup and login. Australian mobiles only. Checking a code is free.

#1 How to set up and use CrazyPIN SMS one-time passcodes (OTP) - profiles, test code and pricing

CrazyPIN (Beta) sends a six-digit one-time passcode (OTP) by SMS to an Australian mobile, then checks the code your customer types back. Use it for two-factor authentication (2FA) and to confirm signups, logins, password resets, phone number changes and important transactions in your own website or app. This guide covers setting up a CrazyPIN profile in MyAccount, sending a test code and what it costs.

Product overview and features: https://crazytel.com.au/crazypin/

Applies to: CrazyPIN (Beta) in MyAccount. Audience: business owners and developers. To connect your own application, see CrazyPIN API integration.

#2 Before you start

You need:

- A Crazytel account with SMS enabled.

- A caller ID that can send SMS: either an active Australian mobile number on your account, or an approved SMS sender name. A voice-only caller ID cannot send SMS. Manage these under Caller ID in MyAccount.

- A developer who can add a few server-side API calls to your application.

Note: CrazyPIN works with Australian mobile numbers only.

#2 Set up in MyAccount

#3 1. Open CrazyPIN

In the left menu go to Premium Features > CrazyPIN. You will see two tabs: Profiles and Test verification.

#3 2. Create a profile

A profile holds the settings for one application (for example "My shop signup"). Click Create profile and fill in:

FieldWhat it meansLimits

Application nameA label for your own reference. Customers never see it.Up to 64 characters
SMS brandThe business name customers see in the text message.Up to 30 characters. Letters, digits, spaces, &, ' and -. Must start with a letter or digit.
SMS caller IDWhere the text comes from. Only caller IDs that can send SMS can be chosen.Required
Code lifetime (seconds)How long a code works.120 to 600 (default 300)
Code attemptsWrong guesses allowed before the verification locks.3, 4 or 5 (default 5)
Daily SMS budget (AUD cents)The most this profile can spend on SMS each day.1 to 100000 (default 1000 = $10.00)
LanguageMessage language.Australian English

Hover the ? icon beside any field for a short explanation. Click Create disabled profile.

The profile appears in your list with a Disabled badge. This is intentional: nothing sends until you turn it on.

Can't pick a caller ID? Choose from the list, or open Search or filter caller IDs to find one by number or type. If the list is empty, you have no caller ID that can send SMS yet. Add a mobile number or request an SMS sender name first.

#3 3. Turn the profile on

Click Manage on the profile, switch Enable profile on, then click Save changes. The list shows a green Enabled badge.

To stop everything for that application later, open Manage and click Disable profile only. Disabling also stops resends and checks on codes that are already out. You can still view and cancel them.

#3 4. Send a test code

- Open the Test verification tab.

- Choose your profile, enter your own mobile number and a purpose (for example Signup).

- Tick I control this mobile and understand SMS charges apply.

- Click Send verification SMS.

Note: a test sends a real SMS and you are charged for it at your normal SMS price. Only send to a mobile you control.

Type the six digits from the text into Verification code and click Check code. The Verification status panel shows time remaining, attempts left, SMS submissions used and delivery status.

From there you can:

- Resend code to get a fresh code (up to three SMS in total per verification).

- Cancel verification to stop the code working immediately.

- Look up a verification by its ID to see its current state (status is kept for 30 days).

If the page says Use the newest code, an earlier code has been replaced and no longer works.

#2 Pricing

- Normal Crazytel SMS prices apply to every message, including resends.

- Checking a code is free.

- Sending lots of codes? See Bulk SMS Plans under SMS Center in MyAccount.

- Expired codes, cancelled verifications, failed deliveries and wrong codes are not refunded.

#2 Frequently asked questions

#3 Is CrazyPIN available for international numbers?

Not yet. It supports Australian mobile numbers only.

#3 Can I change the wording of the SMS?

No. The message is fixed and shows your SMS brand name, the code and the time it has left.

#3 Can I create profiles through the API?

Yes. Use POST /profiles with a sender_id from GET /senders, then enable it with PATCH /profiles/{profile_id} and {"enabled": true}. The portal does the same thing. See CrazyPIN API integration.

#3 Can I delete a profile?

Not at the moment. Disable it instead.

#3 What happens if I change a profile while a code is out?

Changes apply to new verifications. Disabling a profile also stops resends and checks on existing codes.

#3 Who do I contact for help?

Use the Support Desk in MyAccount and include the request_id from any API error, or call 1800 272 998.
