What the NBN® Connection Box (NTD or NCD) is, which port your router uses, and what the green, amber, red and grey lights on the Your NBN® box panel mean.

Most NBN® connections have an NBN® Connection Box on the wall, put there by NBN®. Your router plugs into one of its ports. You may see it called an NTD (Network Termination Device), or an NCD on Fibre to the Curb.

Find it

NBN® Dashboard › Your NBN® box

The panel is also on each connection's Overview tab. It shows the box's lights and ports, and which port each connection uses. FTTN and FTTB have no NBN® box, because your own modem plugs into the phone socket.

#2 The lights on the page

GreenWorking normally.
AmberCould be better.
Solid redA problem, such as an alarm.
Flashing redThe NBN® network reported a flashing light.
DarkOff. This is normal for the alarm light.
Dark with a red ringA problem, such as nothing plugged into a port, or no response from the box.
Hollow greyNot checked yet.

Good to know. These are the last reading from the NBN® network, not the live lights on your box. If they look different, trust the real box and run Check my NBN® box on Diagnostics & Faults.
