NBN websites will not load: compare sites, browsers, devices and mobile data, record errors and refresh the Windows DNS cache without guessing DNS server settings.

#1 Troubleshoot websites that will not load

Use this guide when some websites fail but other internet services work. A site may be unavailable, your browser may have a local problem, or name lookup (DNS) may be failing. This guide does not prescribe DNS server addresses or change router settings.

#2 1. Check whether only one website is affected

Check whether only one site is affected. Try another familiar site or app.

If nothing online works, use no-internet triage. If only one site fails, continue.

#2 2. Compare devices and connections

Compare another device and, if available, a different connection. Try the same site on another device using your home internet, then on mobile data if available.

If it fails on both connections, the site or its service may be unavailable. If it works on mobile data but not at home, continue.

#2 3. Restart the browser and try another

Restart the browser and retry. Close and reopen it; if the issue remains, try a different browser.

If the second browser works, the issue is likely specific to the first browser. Avoid clearing all saved passwords or browser data.

#2 4. Check whether the issue follows one device

Check whether the problem follows one device. If other devices can load the site on the same home connection, focus on the affected device.

Do not disable firewall or security software wholesale.

#2 5. Refresh the Windows DNS cache

Windows only: refresh the local DNS cache if the problem persists. Open Command Prompt and run ipconfig /flushdns, then retry the site.

This clears cached name-lookup entries; it does not change the router or provider's DNS service. If you are unsure, skip this step and record the exact error.

#2 6. Check previously changed DNS and IP settings

Do not enter a guessed DNS server or fixed IP address. If settings were previously changed by you or an administrator, record their current values and follow the operating-system vendor's instructions before changing them.

For managed devices, contact the administrator.

#2 7. Record the website and error details

Record the website address, time, error, affected devices/browsers and whether mobile data works. This helps identify a site-specific, device-specific or wider connection issue.

Stop if the site works again. If a technical adviser later asks for network-trace evidence, use their verified instructions for the chosen tool and target.
