How to: Make a SIP Trunk Ring Group

Create a SIP Trunk Ring Group

This article covers how to create a Ring Group for SIP TRUNKS -- if you are using CrazyPBX (dark portal), this is not the right guide.

Overview

SIP Trunk Ring Groups 'split' inbound calls. Where most features have 1 input to 1 output, Ring Groups turn a single input into multiple outputs.

Ring Groups are used to ring multiple devices when one number is called.

Creating a SIP Trunk Ring Group

This process requires at least one SIP Trunk, or call forwarding destination.

  1. Sign in to your Crazytel Customer Portal
  1. Navigate to Features > Ring Groups
  1. Click Add New Ring Group on the top-right
  1. Set the Ring Group Name in the field provided. This is used to identify Ring Groups on your account.
  1. Set the Type of Ring Group you would like:
  • Ring All: Does what it says on the tin. Rings all Destinations in the Ring Group at the same time
  • Pick Randomly: Rings a random Destination from the Ring Group
  • Ring in Order: Rings each destination for the specified Timeout duration, then tries the next destination if there is no answer
  1. (*optional*) Set the Caller ID Prefix. Text entered here is added before the calling phone numbers on SIP Destinations (Softphones, IP Phones). This is not compatable with call forwarding/PSTN destinations.
  1. Set the Dest. Type for this destination:
  • SIP Trunk: Calls are routed to a SIP Trunk destination (IE, softphone application, IP phone)
  • Call forward: Calls are forwarded to a PSTN (public) phone number.
  1. Set the Destination itself:
  • SIP Trunk: Select the SIP Trunk you wish to route to from the drop-down
  • Call Forward: Enter the number you wish to call forward to in international format. (IE, 0499 888 777 would be 61499888777)
  1. Set the Timeout (sec). This controls how long the destination is called for. (NOTE: Call forward destinations require *at minimum* 4 seconds to allow the call to connect outbound)
  1. (*optional*) Enable Press 1: This is only useful when call forwarding. Press 1 requires the answering party to Press 1 on the keypad to accept the call. This avoids awkward situations where calls are answered by the receiving number's voicemail bank.
  1. Save changes to the Ring Group

Using your Ring Group

To use a Ring Group, simply set it as the destination for any SIP Feature. The most common use for Ring Groups is DID > Ring Group:

  1. Sign in to the Crazytel Customer Portal
  1. Navigate to Number Management > My Numbers, and click the number you wish to use the Ring Group with
  1. Locate the Routing Settings section.
  1. Set the Type of Forwarding drop-down to Ring Group
  1. Set the Forwarding Destination drop-down to your Ring Group name
  1. Scroll to the bottom of the page, and click Save to update the number.
  1. Wait 60 seconds for these changes to propegate through the Crazytel network, then place a test call
