About FTTB

Fibre to the Building: how it works and what you need to get connected.

How it connects

Fibre runs to a communications room in your building. The building's copper phone wiring connects it to the phone socket in your unit.

What you need

A VDSL2 modem-router plugged into your phone socket. Set its internet connection to Dynamic IP (DHCP). There is no PPPoE login and no VLAN tag.

Speed

The copper inside a building is usually short, but its condition varies from building to building.

Power

NBN® services don't work in a power outage, and you can't make calls over them, including to Triple Zero (000).

Your line speed

Your line may not reach a plan's top speed. After connection we check your line's maximum attainable speed. If it can't support your plan, you can move to a lower plan with a pro-rata credit, or cancel with no exit fee.

FTTB questions

Why does my modem need to be VDSL2?

FTTB carries your internet over the building's copper phone wiring using VDSL2. A router without a VDSL2 modem built in can't connect to it.

How do I know if I have FTTB?

Check your address at the top of this page. We'll show your connection type, and if it isn't FTTB, we'll take you to the right plans.

Is there a contract?

No. Every plan is prepaid and month to month, with no lock-in contract and no exit fees.

Can I change plans later?

Yes, any time. Your old plan is credited and the new plan is charged pro-rata. Upgrades need enough balance to cover the difference.

Not sure what you've got?

Check your address and we'll show your NBN® connection type and every plan you can get there.
