About FTTC

Fibre to the Curb: how it works and what you need to get connected.

How it connects

Fibre runs to a pit near your property boundary. The copper phone line carries the last stretch to an NBN® connection device that plugs into your phone socket.

What you need

An NBN®-compatible router. Plug its WAN port into the NBN® connection device and set the WAN to Dynamic IP (DHCP). There is no PPPoE login and no VLAN tag.

Speed

The copper section is short, so FTTC usually gets close to its plan speed. Wiring inside your home can still slow it down.

Power

NBN® services don't work in a power outage, and you can't make calls over them, including to Triple Zero (000). The NBN® connection device is powered from your home.

Your line speed

Your line may not reach a plan's top speed. After connection we check your line's maximum attainable speed. If it can't support your plan, you can move to a lower plan with a pro-rata credit, or cancel with no exit fee. NBN Co is upgrading many copper lines to full fibre. If your address moves to FTTP, you can change to the faster fibre plans with no exit fee.

FTTC questions

Which phone socket should I use?

Use the main phone socket, as close as possible to where the line enters your home. Extension sockets and old wiring can lower your speed.

How do I know if I have FTTC?

Check your address at the top of this page. We'll show your connection type, and if it isn't FTTC, we'll take you to the right plans.

Is there a contract?

No. Every plan is prepaid and month to month, with no lock-in contract and no exit fees.

Can I change plans later?

Yes, any time. Your old plan is credited and the new plan is charged pro-rata. Upgrades need enough balance to cover the difference.

Not sure what you've got?

Check your address and we'll show your NBN® connection type and every plan you can get there.
