Crazytel Now Supports IPv6

We're excited to announce that Crazytel now supports IPv6 across our network - making us one of the first VoIP providers in Australia to offer native IPv6 connectivity for SIP trunks and voice services.

If your connection already has IPv6, you don't need to change a thing. The Crazytel network will detect your IPv6 address and route traffic to it automatically.

Why IPv6 Matters for VoIP

For years, most voice traffic has travelled over IPv4 with Network Address Translation (NAT) sitting in the middle. NAT works, but it adds complexity, extra hops, and failure points that can hurt call quality. IPv6 was designed for a world where every device can have its own public address - and that makes a real difference for real-time voice.

Key Benefits

  • No NAT required - End-to-end connectivity without NAT traversal workarounds, STUN/TURN gymnastics, or one-way audio surprises caused by address rewriting.
  • Lower latency - More direct routing means fewer hops between your PBX or softphone and the Crazytel network, which helps keep voice delay down.
  • Cleaner SIP signalling - Contact and Via headers can carry real addresses instead of private RFC1918 ranges, simplifying registration and media setup.
  • Improved reliability - Fewer middleboxes means fewer places for firewalls and carrier CGNAT to interfere with RTP streams.
  • Future-ready networking - IPv4 address exhaustion and carrier-grade NAT are here to stay. Dual-stack and IPv6-ready voice keeps your setup ahead of the curve.

It Just Works - Automatically

You don't need to open a ticket, flip a feature flag, or reconfigure your trunk just to start using IPv6.

If your site, PBX, or softphone has a working IPv6 connection, the Crazytel network will route to it automatically. Keep using your existing SIP credentials and settings - our dual-stack infrastructure handles the rest.

IPv4 continues to work exactly as it does today. IPv6 is an enhancement for customers who already have it available, not a forced migration.

Who Benefits Most?

  • Businesses on modern fibre or NBN plans with IPv6 enabled
  • Cloud PBX and hybrid SIP trunk deployments that prefer direct media paths
  • IT teams tired of troubleshooting NAT, ALG, and one-way audio issues
  • Anyone building a network stack that's ready for the next decade of internet growth
