Use this guide when an NBN Fixed Wireless service has no internet access. Fixed Wireless connects an outdoor antenna to indoor NBN equipment installed for the service, then connects to your home router. Do not climb to or realign the antenna, touch protected cables or change router settings.
1. Check for outages or planned work
Check for a relevant outage notice or planned work. If one applies, follow the published update.
If not, continue.
2. Record the indoor unit indicators
Identify the indoor NBN unit and record its model and indicator labels. Note Power, Status, Signal or ODU states if present.
Use the exact model's current nbn guide for their meaning; a colour or flashing pattern alone is not a diagnosis.
3. Check indoor power and Ethernet leads
Check accessible indoor power and Ethernet. Confirm power and the Ethernet lead from the indoor NBN unit to the router are seated and undamaged.
Do not disconnect the outdoor antenna cable or enter roof spaces.
4. Compare devices and connection types
Compare another device and a wired connection. If an Ethernet-connected device works but Wi-Fi does not, or only one device fails, use Wi-Fi connected but no internet for client-specific checks.
If multiple devices fail together, note the indoor unit indicators at that time.
5. Restart using normal indoor power controls
Restart only through normal indoor power controls and equipment instructions. Do not reset or adjust the outdoor equipment.
After start-up, test once more.
6. Record your results
Record the outage notice, equipment model/indicator labels, lead checks, devices tested, wired/Wi-Fi result and time. If conditions such as severe weather coincide, note that as context, not proof of cause.
See nbn's Fixed Wireless information for connection topology.
