Understanding Phone Number Ranges in Australia

Geographic phone numbers in Australia are allocated by the ACMA in ranges tied to Standard Zone Units (SZUs), not suburb by suburb. One SZU can cover many suburbs, so your suburb may not be listed directly and a nearby town or zone name appears instead. ACMA also allocates different ranges to different providers: Telstra holds many traditional ranges, and Crazytel is not partnered with Telstra, Optus, or other carriers, so the prefixes Crazytel offers in your area come from the ranges allocated to us and can differ from the pattern on Telstra or Optus numbers nearby. A different prefix is still a valid local number, calls work the same, and numbers can be ported between Australian providers.

Pre-Paid Billing Policy

Crazytel is a pre-paid service. Accounts must remain in credit at all times or all services are automatically suspended, and services cannot be unsuspended until the balance is back in credit. This is a system restriction that staff cannot override. Auto top-up is required on every plan except Pay-As-You-Go (P.A.Y.G). SIP trunk fees bill on the 1st of each month, and numbers bill on your DID billing date. Invoices starting with U are usage invoices for the month just gone, and invoices without a U are your phone number (DID) charges issued separately, so you typically receive 2 invoices each month. Invoices show as paid because every charge comes out of your account balance in real time: they are usage and tax records, not payment requests. If usage or charges exceed your top-ups, the balance can go negative and all services stop until you top up again. We do not send debt to a debt collector. Unpaid balances are written off when the account is closed, after a notice timetable: Day 0 email and SMS, Day 2 SMS, Day 7 email, Day 8 formal closure notice, and a final warning about 3 days before closure. Payment arrangements and hardship pauses are available, and the TIO can be contacted on 1800 062 058.

Calling 000 (Triple Zero) on Crazytel

Calls to 000 (Triple Zero) are free with priority access on every Crazytel service. On the new SIP Trunk network, 000 calls bypass every account check, including a disabled trunk, a negative balance, or a spend limit. A VoIP phone needs power and internet, so if your power or internet is down it cannot call 000. Always use a mobile phone to call 000 if you can.

A provider locked modem, carrier locked router, Telstra locked modem, Optus locked router, modem locked to current provider, or router locked to ISP will not work. Use Crazytel with an unlocked modem or router, SIP phone, ATA, or softphone when you switch from another provider.
