SIP Trunks vs CrazyPBX Extensions - quick comparison

Standard Crazytel SIP trunks work directly with an ATA, IP phone or softphone without an existing PBX. Hybrid SIP trunks add Crazytel-provided hold, transfer and internal calling. CrazyPBX is a hosted phone system with managed extensions, not a requirement for every basic phone or voicemail setup.

The practical difference

  • Standard SIP: compare this first for one phone that only needs to make and receive calls. A compatible ATA, IP phone or softphone can connect directly. An existing PBX is optional.
  • Hybrid SIP: compare this for hold, transfers, internal calling and office features on trunks without a separate PBX. It also works with your own PBX.
  • CrazyPBX: compare this for a hosted-extension system or CrazyPhone desktop. CrazyPhone mobile also works with standard and Hybrid trunks; the desktop-only restriction must not be applied to all softphones.

Do not confuse product prices with bundled plans

The published Business SIP PAYG plan fee is $0 plus $0.50 per standard SIP trunk per month. The $35 figure is the Crackers bundle, not the minimum SIP price or the PAYG fee. CrazyPBX PAYG is $1 per extension and CrazyPBX Business is $15 per extension. Phone-number rental, chargeable calls and optional features are separate. Voicemail and ring groups

Premium Voice Suite apps, including voicemail and ring groups, can be attached to a Crazytel number used with standard or Hybrid SIP trunks. You do not need CrazyPBX solely for those features. The published Voice Suite base price is $1 per month per app instance, with optional usage charges where listed.
