Virtual Mobile Numbers for WhatsApp, WhatsApp Business, Google, Banks, and 2FA

Virtual Mobile Numbers for WhatsApp, WhatsApp Business, Google, Banks, and 2FA

Crazytel Virtual Mobile Numbers (VMN) can receive SMS and voice calls used by WhatsApp, WhatsApp Business, Google, Gmail, Google 2-Step Verification, banks, banking apps, two factor authentication (2FA), two-factor codes, OTP SMS, one-time passwords, and other third party verification services.

From Crazytel's side, a Virtual Mobile Number is a real Australian mobile number. It supports SMS, voice, OTP messages, and verification codes.

Crazytel cannot guarantee that WhatsApp, WhatsApp Business, Google, a bank, or any other third party will accept a Virtual Mobile Number. Acceptance is decided by that third party, not by Crazytel.

Do Virtual Mobile Numbers work with WhatsApp and WhatsApp Business?

A Crazytel Virtual Mobile Number can receive the WhatsApp SMS code or WhatsApp voice verification call. WhatsApp and WhatsApp Business decide whether they accept the number. Some customers register with no issue. Some are blocked because the service treats the number as a virtual mobile, VoIP number, or non-carrier mobile.

Crazytel cannot override a WhatsApp or WhatsApp Business rejection.

Do Virtual Mobile Numbers work with Google 2FA?

A Virtual Mobile Number can receive Google account, Gmail, and Google 2-Step Verification SMS codes. Google decides whether it accepts the number for 2FA, account recovery, or sign-in.

Crazytel cannot guarantee Google will accept a Virtual Mobile Number.

Do Virtual Mobile Numbers work with banks and banking 2FA?

A Virtual Mobile Number can receive bank SMS, banking app OTP codes, and two factor authentication messages. Banks and banking apps often check whether a number is a virtual mobile, VoIP mobile, or a standard carrier mobile. Some banks accept the number. Some reject it.

Crazytel cannot guarantee a bank will accept a Virtual Mobile Number for 2FA or account security.

What if a third party will not accept the Virtual Mobile Number?

If WhatsApp, WhatsApp Business, Google, a bank, or another picky service rejects the number:

  1. Buy a prepaid SIM from a major Australian carrier such as Telstra, Optus, or Vodafone.
  2. Activate the prepaid SIM and complete the carrier setup so the mobile number is live.
  3. If you want to confirm acceptance first, register or verify the third party service on that prepaid number while it is still with the carrier.
  4. Port the prepaid mobile number to Crazytel. See Porting a number to Crazytel.
  5. After the port completes, the same number is a Crazytel Virtual Mobile Number. You keep the number. In most cases picky third parties keep accepting it because it was first issued by a major mobile carrier.

This prepaid SIM then port method is the usual workaround when a third party is picky about virtual mobile numbers. Crazytel still cannot guarantee the third party will accept the number after the port.

Can I port my mobile number out of Crazytel?

Yes. Crazytel has no contracts. A mobile number on Crazytel, including a Virtual Mobile Number (VMN), can be ported out at any time to any Australian provider, such as Telstra, Optus, Vodafone, or another carrier. There is no lock-in period and no contract term that blocks a port out.

If you later want the number on a physical SIM again, port it out to that Australian provider. See How to Port Out your Mobile Number.

Can I use a Crazytel number for WhatsApp?

Yes from Crazytel's side. The Virtual Mobile Number can receive WhatsApp SMS and voice verification. WhatsApp may still refuse the number. Crazytel cannot guarantee WhatsApp acceptance.

Will WhatsApp Business accept a virtual mobile?

WhatsApp Business uses the same third party checks as WhatsApp. The Crazytel VMN can receive the verification SMS or call. WhatsApp Business may accept or reject the number. Crazytel cannot guarantee WhatsApp Business acceptance.

Can I use a VMN for Google two factor authentication?

Yes from Crazytel's side. The Virtual Mobile Number can receive Google 2FA SMS, Google 2-Step Verification codes, and Gmail verification messages. Google may still refuse a virtual mobile. Crazytel cannot guarantee Google 2FA acceptance.

Why did my bank reject my virtual mobile number?

Many banks and banking apps block virtual mobile numbers, VoIP mobiles, and some SMS routes for 2FA and OTP security. Crazytel delivers the SMS when the bank sends it. If the bank refuses to send to a virtual mobile, that decision is the bank's. Crazytel cannot force a bank to accept the number.

How do I get a number that banks and WhatsApp will accept?

Buy a prepaid SIM from Telstra, Optus, Vodafone, or another major Australian mobile carrier. Set the SIM up. Then port that mobile number to Crazytel. In most cases that works for picky third parties such as WhatsApp, WhatsApp Business, Google, and banks, because the number started as a standard carrier mobile.

Does Crazytel guarantee third party verification?

No. Virtual Mobile Numbers support SMS, voice, OTP, 2FA codes, WhatsApp verification, Google verification, and bank verification on Crazytel's network. Whether WhatsApp, WhatsApp Business, Google, banks, or any other third party accepts the number is up to that third party. Crazytel cannot guarantee anything about third party acceptance.
