Common Virtual Mobile Number questions: VMN additional product, SIP Trunk, CrazyPBX, CIS, SMS, and CrazyPhone

Common Virtual Mobile Number (VMN) questions

A Crazytel Virtual Mobile Number (VMN) is an additional product and add-on, not a named plan. A virtual mobile is just the number. It is not a phone system. It does not include SIP Trunk minutes or CrazyPBX seating. You still need a SIP Trunk or CrazyPBX to make calls and receive calls.

Virtual Mobile Numbers have no Critical Information Summary (CIS). There is no dedicated Virtual Mobile CIS. Sending SMS is 5 cents (5c) per SMS on all plans. The CrazyPhone unlimited SMS add-on is $4.95 a month for unlimited SMS to Australian numbers with the CrazyPhone app.

What is a Virtual Mobile Number?

A Virtual Mobile Number (VMN), also called a virtual mobile, is a Crazytel phone number. It is an additional product and add-on. You buy the number. You do not get a phone system, SIP Trunk minutes, or CrazyPBX seating with the number alone.

A Crazytel physical SIM or Optus SIM is a different product. A VMN is just a phone number. It is not a SIM card and it is not a mobile plan.

See How to Buy a Number if you need to order a Virtual Mobile Number.

Do I need a SIP Trunk or CrazyPBX with a Virtual Mobile Number?

Yes. A Virtual Mobile Number does not let you make calls or receive calls on its own. You still need a SIP Trunk or CrazyPBX plan.

  • A SIP Trunk gives you SIP calling and plan minutes.
  • CrazyPBX is a hosted phone system with seating.

The VMN is only the number you point at that SIP Trunk or CrazyPBX service. See SIP Trunks vs CrazyPBX if you are choosing a plan.

Is there a Critical Information Summary for Virtual Mobile Numbers?

No. Virtual Mobile Numbers have no Critical Information Summary (CIS). There is no CIS for a VMN because a Virtual Mobile Number is an additional product, not a named plan. There is no dedicated Virtual Mobile CIS. Crazytel does not publish a VMN CIS PDF.

Named plan CIS files (home, business SIP, CrazyPBX) live with the other legal documents. See Legal Documents Repository.

How much does SMS cost on a Virtual Mobile Number?

Sending SMS is 5 cents (5c) per SMS on all plans. That 5c SMS rate is the standard Virtual Mobile Number SMS price.

The 5 cents per SMS rate is not a mobile SIM plan rate. A Crazytel physical SIM or Optus SIM is a different product.

See SMS Message Costs for character limits and how SMS is billed.

What is the CrazyPhone unlimited SMS add-on?

CrazyPhone is an optional add-on. It costs $4.95 a month for unlimited SMS to Australian numbers with the CrazyPhone app.

Without the CrazyPhone add-on, sending SMS is 5 cents (5c) per SMS. The CrazyPhone unlimited SMS add-on is for customers who send a lot of SMS to Australian numbers from the CrazyPhone app.

Is a Virtual Mobile Number the same as a Crazytel physical SIM or Optus SIM?

No. A Virtual Mobile Number (VMN) is just a phone number. A Crazytel physical SIM or Optus SIM is a different product. The SIM is a mobile service. The VMN is an additional product you attach to a SIP Trunk or CrazyPBX plan.

Does a Virtual Mobile Number include call forwarding minutes?

No. Call forwarding is a separate topic. A Virtual Mobile Number does not include forwarded minutes as plan minutes. A VMN is just the number. Forwarding is set up on the SIP Trunk or CrazyPBX service that uses that number.
